Travel + Leisure, Gothamist guide readers to featured locations via embedded maps
Publications Travel + Leisure and Gothamist are ramping up mobile reader engagement by embedding a mapping system within certain stories on mobile to create a more comprehensive experience.
The media brands are hoping to build more compelling stories for their readers, to leave a lasting impression and further assistance with helpful content such as providing a direct link to the best places to eat for lunch. The publications are partnering with Citymaps, to create and embed native interactive maps within its content.
“Mobile users have different objectives than desktop users and typically this means they want information in quick, easily digestible bites,” said Elliot Cohen, founder of Citymaps. “This underscores the importance of optimizing your mobile experience to match a visitor’s needs and behaviors in the context of how they will most likely be browsing your website.
“Content that looks great on a desktop might be unreadable on a mobile device,” he said. “Visitors will not stay on your site if they have to pinch and zoom or squint at illegible type, or worse yet if it runs flash or anything that requires add-ons to display in a browser.”
