Steve Wozniak on wearable technology, artificial intelligence and Apple’s innovation woes
Steve Wozniak built the first Apple computer, alongside Steve Jobs, back in 1976. As such, he is credited with inventing the personal computer and heralding a new age of technology.
So he is often asked to opine on all matters tech, usually to record crowds. His upcoming visit to Montreal on Feb. 16, as a guest of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, is quickly selling out.
He is expected to touch on his perennial favorite topics — entrepreneurship and encouraging innovative spirits — but also on education technology, artificial intelligence, and future promises like self-driving cars. He spoke with the Montreal Gazette and other local media in a telephone interview to discuss the state of tech today.

The current trend in personal tech is all about devices that you wear on your body, such as the Google Glass eyeglasses-like computer or wristbands that measure your heartbeat and sleeping patterns like the Apple Watch. Wozniak hasn’t made up his mind about these yet. But he has a feeling the watch, which so many of us jettisoned for the smartphone, isn’t quite ready for comeback.
“Will these offer a simplification that we can’t live without? Or will we decide that our smartphones already do everything we need,” he wondered. “I’m for anything that’s simpler. But I also need a decent display. And small screens can be a hindrance.”
